Background
This Westsail 32 started life as a kit boat purchased in 1977 by the head of the Westsail Owners Association from the East Coast plant. It is one of the last examples built to the updated "Crealock" deck plan, featuring a crowned deck with molded-in hatches and propane locker, flush-mounted lifeline stanchions, and the revised one-piece hull mold with a finer entry and fuller stern. At original construction, 500 lbs of additional ballast was added. The interior was custom-finished over 14 years by a master craftsman in seven species of hand-selected and matched hardwoods. The result is not a typical Westsail 32.
In 1996 she entered the Annapolis-Bermuda Race in Class 5 with a crew of four. She finished first in class and on corrected time beat all boats in Class 4 and all but two in Class 3, arriving in St. George's Harbour alongside a Hinckley Bermuda 40 — without a Max Prop or spinnaker. She has since been extensively outfitted for offshore and bluewater cruising. The current owners are selling due to an unplanned retirement and a growing family requiring a larger vessel.
