It depends on where we cruise. In the California Delta we usually leave it in the water chained to the boat. Anchored in S. Calif. we use the the same procedure as Mexico and somewhere like Tamales Bay (50 mi. north of of San Francisco) we just tie it to the boat.
In Mexico we lift it high out of the water at the spreaders and cable/chain it to the boat every night. Most times we also remove the motor and lock it to the boat. Dingy motors tempt a lot of Mexicans as one small motor is more than they make in a year.
The irony is that personal safety isn't any concern in Mexico, but it is in the U.S.
