Hi - After we had Mithrandir painted and started putting things back together, I noticed the running backstay rigging is out of place and I'm not sure the proper position for how the backstays are stowed when not in use. Does anyone want to post some pics of how their's is rigged?

    Sincerely,

    Dan

    Dan,

From Bud's Owner manual on page A-13:
The lower end of the tackle is usually attached to a tang on the stanchion attachment bolt on the inside of the bulwark by the cabin back. There is also a padeye installed on the inside of the bulwark near the aft lower shrouds to attach the backstay tackle when not being used.

Hope this helps.  I don't have a photo of it right now handy.   Basically you can attach them at any point near the aft lower shroud so they'll be out of the way.

Thanks Tate! I pulled out Bud's service manual and found a good diagram on A-13 just like you mentioned. I appreciate your reply. Take care, Dan.

I prefer to mount mine about yard aft of the aft stay on a pad eye on the outside near the edge of the teak deck next to the bulwark using a quick disconnect shackle. That way it does not interfere with the main boom and usually doesn't need to be stowed, only slacked with a block and tackle rigged to the 1/4" coated cable. When both are tensioned properly it provides the needed support of the mast for the staysail load. They are outboard enough to allow passage around them when going forward. Just my 2 cents.
