I would like to get your opinion on how to fix the inside of my bobstay fitting. It looks a bit corroded but I can't see any cracks. It has some rock hard filler above it and I have taken away any loose epoxy layers. The bottom half of it seems OK. I could either take the whole thing out or fix it as is by pouring  epoxy down the cracks and layer sheets of fiberglass mat over the top. What say ye?
    many thanks in anticipation.
    Peter

    Peter,
I'd like to help but I don't see a picture.
Did you upload a picture? I'm not able to know as I use an ipad.
It seems like maybe you did as the border allowed would suggest.

    Ahoy Peter,

Stainless steel will corrode on the underside of a fitting.  That is, the side away from the oxygen.  I suggest you take the whole fitting out and inspect it.  If it is OK to your satisfaction, then reinstall it.  I did just that a few years ago just to ease my mind about it.  Mine did have some crevis corrosion that appeared minor.  A welder/friend concurred that it was OK.  Had it been questionable, then I would have had a new one made.  A relatively easy thing for a metal fabricator to do.

    Good Luck,     Dave
