Sanding teak before appling Cetol questions

As I am working on the bowsprit platform I am not sure if I need to sand between the open spaces. The wood still has the silver weathering on it. Do I need to sand this down also before I coat it with Cetol?  Also I have a few light silver streaks on the top in a few places. Do I need to sand those out completely or will they seal up ok with Cetol?

I refinished the teak with Cetol many years ago on Pygmalion.  I've been happy with the results.  I've found that if the surface is smooth the finish lasts much longer then if you just sand lightly.

I'd recommend a light sanding on the edges of the openings to match the sides.

I choose the darker Cetol though you might like the lighter version of the product.

I refiished the platforms before the new SS bowsprit was installed by sanding smooth, scrubbed with teak cleaner, a light sanding then washed with teak bleach.  By this time the color variations have been minimized. Preping the teak all the same is important for color consistancy.

I'd recommend a small test area to confirm your results for finish and color.

Apply 2 of the under/color coat then 2 + coats of the gloss are applied per the instructions.

Yearly, I wash the teak with a light scrubbing pad and water - then recoat with the gloss coat.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Jay. So I will sand everything. By the way your platform looks great! I hope to have one like that soon!

I'm cross posting this from Bud:

Check out Armada finish if it is available near you. I have had excellent results with it, and so have a number of other owners.
