Long out of print, Bill Crealock wrote these books mid 1970s about his voyages in the South Pacific - I don't believe that he was using a Westsail during his voyages.

Vagabonding: a group of Brittish college buddies buy a old wooden workboat (channel cutter), and sail it to Brazil. Crealock rigs a square-sail for the downwind ride in the trades and developes his interest in yacht design and a distaste for heavy, slow sailboats.
Check out Bill Tillman's 8 sailing books; also a Brit, sailing old pilot cutters, mostly in the high latitudes in order to gain access to unclimbed mountains. There's more sailing than climbing, one of the last great adventurers.
