    Hey all!

Prospective Westsail owner here, just took a look at this ‘73 W32 today. I’m curious what the community thinks? I’m new to teak decks, so not sure how much work some of these missing bungs will take, and what the general condition of the deck looks like. Lovely boat and I’m thinking of putting in an offer!

    Here’s some more details:

New Perkins 4-108 installed in 1997 (only 600 hrs)

Standing rigging done in ‘97 as well, so probably needs replacing.

General survey from 5 years ago had only good things to say. Obviously I’d get a survey before buying.

I’m looking to take this puppy (or whichever boat I end up with) across the Pacific, so I’m looking forward to owning something nice and heavy.

Anything that I should know before putting in an offer (it’s up for 43k) would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Charles , nothing looks as good as Teak decks and they are excellent for non skid . Some people will only wash them down with salt water and a soft brush .

As for the missing bung , if there is enough wood left just put a new one in .

It has been said plenty of times do not consider a boat with Teak decks , the reason is they can leak and the water gets into the plywood core . It would be hard to spot intel it's a big problem . IMO .

On the other hand my dad had 3 boats with Teak decks and never had a problem . In the pictures that you posted the teak and the caulking look to be in really good shape .

Good luck and keep us posted .
