Beta 38hp vs volvo D2-40

    Hi all, some feedback please. My trusty old 4-108 threw a piston in the bay on saturday (wind died before the motor but thats another story) so I'm repowering. I'm not reading good things about the D2-40? Those running the beta 38, happy not happy? Viewing the installation instructions on WOA leans me towards the beta  38! Comments please, regards Shaun.

    I am really happy with my Beta 38-  I put it in about 6 years ago and it has been completely trouble free.  Bud's installation instructions/parts made the job relatively easy, and I did it myself over the course of two days.  The motor pushes the boat along great and I feel like I have plenty of power in reserve if I need it.  I really like being able to buy the consumables at Tractor Supply :-)

    I have sold and helped install over a hundred of the Beta 38 engine in Westsail 32's over the past 12 or so years, and have had only a few warranty problems and no complaints from the owners.  Nuff said.

    I agree with the the Beta 38 being a good choice... A repower is a great time to also redo the engine compartment - on Pygmalion that was the only time that getting the two fuel tanks out for cleaning etc is possible.  

    So while the installation of the new engine is a 2 day event -- the prep for the installation was much longer :)...

    I totally agree Jay but my juggling act at the moment between serviceability and time. I have about five years before I can put some serious effort into it. My motto at the moment is "if it aint broke don't touch it", and unfortunately it broke! (sigh).
