Just a heads up that 4 Westsail 32 will be on the hard together at Ladd's Marina, Stockton CA - Julie and Jim Focha World Wind, Randy Leasure Tortuga, Duke MacGill Amable  and Doug Lamb Pelican will be working on their boats starting 3/26 and continuing for a few weeks.

Dave King arrives April 2 to assist and perform his hull modification magic - I'll be there later in the week with my tools and work clothes to get in the way and take photos.

    Visitors welcome.

Bud is planning on attending April 7 and there is a no-host dinner in the area - more see information below.

      Special get-together,

    but not really a rendezvous,

at Stockton in Central California on

    April 7th, 2012.

Dave King, better known as CAPTAIN SPEEDY, is going to make four slow moving Westsails into fast moving Westsails.   Dave will be doing his magic bottom smoothing around the rudder project on four W32’s at the same time.

The boats will be hauled out at Ladd’s Boatyard, at  4911 Buckley Cove Way in Stockton, California on April 4th, and the work will go on until all four are made into fast boats, ready for the America’s Cup for Westsails.

Any  interested boatowners are invited to join Dave and crew on Saturday,  April 7 to check out the work and ask Dave any questions you may be pondering about making your Westsail into a speedy one.

There will be a no-host dinner on Saturday evening at one of the local restaurants to go over his great work.

Directions to Ladd’s.  Go west on March Lane off of I-5 in Stockton.  Continue west, as road turns into Buckley Cove Way.  Ladd’s is opposite the Stockton Sailing Club.

Can’t miss it and hope to see you there !

    Bud

I really really wish we could be there, but we cannot.  I would be immensely grateful if someone there could take the time to document this process and write up the particulars of how it is done.

    Hi Tate:

Try this link http://www.westsail.org/westsailFAQ?mode=MessageList&eid=513865  to get started...

I do plan to be there several days and will be taking photos of the process and getting my hands dirty.  Tough to get photo's while working though..

    We'll see.

Bud Taplin provided these images of before and after the Dave King modifications.  Note the gap between the rudder and the hull.   Gary Burton's Elizabeth Ann on the right.

The Westsails are on the hard at Ladd's Marina in Stockton, CA and it's not raining -- at least when the photo was taken:).

I'll be dropping by Sunday to help then back on Wednesday. A Julie/Jim Focha image.
