Time for the Northern California Westsail Rendezvous    September 29th - October 1st, 2023

    Location

    Vallejo Yacht Club, Vallejo, CA

Welcome! All Westsails and Westsailors past, present and future.  Bring your boat, crew, or just yourself. We have dock space for all the boats.  The guest docks are available.

This is a great time to tour Westsails and make new friends.

The rendezvous will be hosted by Andrea Dose and Mike Ransom aboard W32 Aerides along with Randy Leasure aboard Tortuga and Jay Bietz aboard Pygmalion.

This year we will be keeping the event simple – more of a sail-in than a formal rendezvous as in the past.

Please register in advance online at the WOA website at http://www.westsail.org, and contact Andrea and Mike at their email address:  likeabikemike@gmail.com, for updates on the availability of guest slips.

We will be using the guest dock at the VYC and docking W32s along the guest dock. We will dock 3 boats lengthwise and then side tying as more arrive 2 boats wide. There will also be other spaces available (yet to be determined) for more boats that don’t fit at the guest dock.  We will be guests of the VYC so there will be other members at the club as well during the weekend with some other activities happening. Please be respectful and responsible as we are guests of the host and club. The VYC bar will be open to purchase drinks.

Visitors must register in the club guest book upon arrival and do not have to be a member of a yacht club to attend.  If you have a current membership card from another club you should present it. Visitors are expected to follow general club rules and regulations while at Vallejo Yacht Club and are subject to their statement of limited liability.

Vessel Berthing - rate is $1/foot/night or whatever rate is applicable should you have a reciprocating yacht club membership.

Vehicle Parking - is available at the VYC. 485 Mare Island Way, Vallejo, CA 94590.

Arriving by boat - The VYC is located 2.5 NM up the Napa River from the Mare Island Strait at the east end of San Pablo Bay. Please feel free to email Mike for local info on the best timing for currents & wind, and depths within the marina.

You can arrive via Ferry as the terminal is a short walk to the club.  Use the Vallejo Ferry Route.

    2019 Northern California Rendezvous schedule:

Friday, September 29th. - Boats arrive. Evening hors d'oeuvres, potluck on the dock near the boats - a fun event so bring your favorite finger food.

Saturday, September 30th. All day: Boat tours and lots of visiting and ogling of the boats and telling almost true sea stories. Bud Taplin will hold his infamous two-beer mini-surveys, answers questions and prowl the docks and boats with ideas and insults galore. He will also have copies of his book, “Westsail the World, Almost  True Sea Stories by Owners and Ex-owners” available for sale.  He may even autograph them for you.  He will also have a surprise gift to all the owners if you can guess what it is.

The WOA store will be open Saturday afternoon and evening for the opportunity to buy hats, T-shirts, and lots of other goodies. We are looking for someone to organize the store.

Saturday dinner -We will be ordering several pizzas and salad delivered to the VYC. Cost per adult is $15.00 cash and will be collected by Jay Bietz.

Evening presentations: Bud will have a discussion on “things that break”.  Randy Leasure will give an update on the just completed race to Hawaii with three W32 boats all finishing, and some new records set.  This will be followed with an open mike if  you wish to share your sailing stories.

Sunday, October 1st. - Sunday breakfast on your own.

11:00 am or so: head out for the trip back to your home port, or wherever else you want to go.

Remember, you don’t have to be a Westsail owner to attend.  Owners of all the

Atkins/Archer/Double-ender types, and any other interested folks are invited to enjoy

the camaraderie and see our beautiful boats.  Spread the word in your home ports !!

Hope to see you there in Vallejo
