Re-rigging dismasted W42 Cutter

    Spirit Borne was dismasted by two other boats on the hard in St. Thomas.  The hull remains intact and upright.  The mast has been broken above the spreader and below.  Has anyone gone through the process of selecting a new mast appropriate to this configuration.  Thinking about a shorter rig because we sail with a single reef 95% of the time.  

    None of the rigging parted, the spreaders are intact and can be re-used.  Roller furling only has one extrusion compromised. Advisable to re-use 20 year old wire and fittings or start from scratch.

    My Westsail 32 got dimasted too by irma in nanny cay boatyard, tortola. Luckely the two parts of the mast are straight

    I am looking for a 3 or 4 foot pice of mast to use to joint my broken mast, And i think one piece of your must will work for me

    We have a good riggers here and they are ordering new mast to USA factories. They can mesure and give you a quotation. I guess you will need to bring the boat to _Tortola.

    Wish I had an answer for both of you... LaFiell is no long making masts ... 

    So keep looking around at damaged boats -- maybe you'll get lucky.  

    As far as 20 year old rigging... usually 10 years - and the riggers think you need new rigging.  

    I've talked to Bud on this issue as Pygmalion has at least 25 year old rigging - recommend you email him directly for his advise... seems the original westsail riggers used a special machine to do the swedging. there's one on the west coast - and this process doesn't cause cracks later on.

    Update: we bought an excellent mast off a Hunter 54 double spreader rig.  Now working with Bud and local rigger on configuring it for SB.  Many thanks for the comments!
