I bought 1974 Westsail32 Oceanus, this is me first sailboat with inboard engine.

The 4 old mounts were broken, replace 4 motor mounts on Yarman 3JHe2.

Could you please sent recommendation for shaft alignment?

    Thank you.

Hi Felipe , congratulations on your new to you Oceanus . I have done shaft alignment a few times and I'm about to do it again as I need to replace a motor mount .

A bottle jack underneath the engine is necessary to get the new mounts in , make sure it is not going to punch through anything .

Once the new mounts are in pull the shaft flange up to the trans. flange get those two inline and measure the gaps in-between the two flanges  all the way around , use a feeler gauge . Of course moving the engine around to get the flanges to mate up perfect .

There are a number of YouTube videos on the subject .

Good luck , keep us posted . Mark .

You should unbolt the shaft coupling from the transmission before moving the engine.  Quite often you can remove the mounts one at a time, since the other thee mounts will hold the engine in place.

Remove the top locking nut on each mount, and move the lower nut on all four mounts up until the top of the stud is just even with the top of the mounting brackets.  Then move one of the nuts down the stud until the mount on the opposite corner of the engine mounts is clear of the bracket.  Now you can remove that mount and replace it with the new mount.

Do this on each of the other three mounts one at a time.  Now you can lower and adjust all of them until the couplings line up.  Maybe this procedure takes a little longer than using a jack under the engine, but eliminates the chance of damaging the engine pan with a jack under it, or the engine tipping over if it is not exactly balanced on the jack.
