I found out yesterday that production boats use stainless below the waterline.  For example, the C&C 33 middle 80's with Marelon seacocks.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.  I bought silicon bronze for everything below the waterline (not a cheap date by the way), but I am converting most of everything to 316 stainless above the waterline.
