I found a W32 named Emma at the Grand Marina in New Bern, NC. Chatting to the owner, he mentioned that he would like to have a clubfoot boom for a self-tending staysail.
I noticed that he has a whisker pole attached to chocks on his cabin top. I suggested that he might be able to rig that pole to have a dual purpose, whisker pole and/or club footed boom. My suggestion was rash because I don't have a staysail boom so I only have a vague idea of how to do it.
I think he could use a U shaped bail attached to the sampson posts. The whisker pole forward end would clamp to that. Then a short line from the aft pole clamp to the clew of the staysail would hold the sail in place. Less clear is how to mount the control sheet.
Can anyone help me with advice and/or pictures?
