    Hi guys,

any ideas or thoughts on replacing the boomkin on a WS32 with aluminum or stainless? Would it be better to attach it to the deck or hull sides?
We think of using aluminum and attach it to the hull sides, so it will add to the aft deck space as well.

Maybe somebody already has experiences with that?

I saw that the WOA manual has a 'Stainless steel boomkin installation' section to get advise on this. I will check that out as well.

    Thanks,
    Miriam

Or you could buy good quality SS boomkin from Bud. I'm very happy with one I have on Okeanos. Would never go with aluminium. IMHO wood is better than aluminium.

Take a look at http://www.westsail.org/westsailcockpitandstarn members can view the slide show and see many images of cockpit and stern - including different boobkins...

I'll also recommend bud's SS replacement.

the SS Boomkin was installed after the other toggle end broke - this one is ready to go next - replace all of this style toggle.

toggle jaw was broken on my ss boomkin too. just fixed temporary while on Atlantic crossing with bolt and piece of sheet metal. bought new when could.
But to buy/ build new boomkin from aluminium would make (at least little) sense IF you have Aries windvane. Which is mostly from cast aluminium. So you'd avoid dissimilar metals. But I'd probably go with wooden before aluminium.
