I'd posted this in the old forum and decided it was worth posting again.

When it was important to face forward (docking, etc.) I was never able to find a comfy way to sit on the boomkins/lazerette. Too many sharp angles, pointy things poking into my butt.

One of the best creature comfort items I've purchased for my boat is a small 25" round bean bag 'dog's nest' bed from Orvis (Google it).  Unfortunately they don't offer them in the original canvas anymore but mine held up for 7 years being completely ignored, (out in the rain, sun etc.) until I needed it.  I suspect the new upholstery-grade Microfiber would be long lasting as well.

However, knowing it was on its last legs I recently had a duplicate made out of Sunbrella.  It's simple: just sew two circles together to make a 'liner' to hold the polyester beads. Zipper it (nylon of course) because after a few years you will need to refill with new beads. Then the cover. Again, two round circles with a 6" wide strip sewn around the edges to give the 'pillow' a 6" loft.  Zipper it and voila! The best WS32 cockpit seat you can imagine.

The beauty is it can be stuffed into those weird corners, has the comfort of a bean bag yet without the bulk of a human sized bean bag chair.  And after all these years (slaps forehead) I've just discovered another use... I take it below and use it to turn the bunk into a 'recliner' for reading.
