    Hey guys,

I am thinking about doing a complete refit of the lighting on our W33.  Just wondering if anyone has been through this process already and what products you are using?

    Cheers,

I put this Red/White switchable LED into all of my existing dome light fixtures from MarineBeam.com. I love them - one of the best upgrades I've done so far. Plugs right in, the white light is perfect.

Red/White "Switchable" LED for Dome Lights

    Here's the product description from MarineBeam.com :

We introduce our new dual color Red & White Switchable Constellation replacement LED bulb made specifically for the standard dome lights and square ceiling lights found in most boats and RV's. This drop-in bayonet LED replacement features two modes from the same bulb! It can function as either a Red bulb, for preserving night vision, or with a quick flick of your existing switch, it can morph into a high-output super-bright Warm White bulb. No need for changing out fixtures or wiring.

When initially switched on, its output comes from the three center RED LEDs. This provides a nice soft red output that is more than enough to light to see really well down below at night. This red start-up mode is really handy to prevent the loss of night vision, and avoids disturbing others down below. It is your choice whether you want Red or Warm White, and the control is all done using your existing switches.

Imagine being able to convert any 5" or 6" dome light in your boat to a red output with just a quick flick of the switch. No need for big double bulb fixtures and 3-way switches. This is all accomplished using a digital latching technique within the bulb's microprocessor electronics. The bulb senses each toggle of the switch and latches into the Warm White mode if the switch is toggled off-on within 3 seconds. To revert to Red mode is a simple off and back on with a 3 second delay.

Our unique 15-LED matrix is designed to fit perfectly in the standard 5" and 6" dome lights like those made by ABI, AAA, West Marine, and Cabin, among others.

The bulb features 3 Red and 12 Warm White triple-emitter SMD LEDs, along with a peel-and-stick foam mount backing that makes installation easy, even on concave or irregular surfaces. Our emitter board also has a special notch cut-out for the socket, so the bulb fits perfectly centered.

    • Voltage: 10-30VDC

    • Wattage: 0.6W (Red); 2.5W (Warm White)

    • Amperage (12V): 0.05 Amp (Red); 0.21 Amp (Warm White)

    • Luminous Flux: 145 Lumens

    • Beam Angle: 120°

    • Dimensions: 57mm x 57mm x 8.5mm

    • Replaces: BA15S and BA15D Bayonet Socket Dome Lights

    • Warranty: 2 years

Great idea would like to try them on TAMZIN but I can't recall if the current sockets are two prong or single prong.  Do you remember which you ordered?    thanks

The original dome lights are dual contact.  But note they are 1142 (BA15D) base where the pins on the side are opposite each other and not staggered like those of a auto tail light bulb.  I can't tell you how many times I've made that mistake.

    I just replaced all my dome lights (and reading light) with these;

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DDOTJFW/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are brighter than the incandescent bulbs, give a nice 'warm' color so everything isn't lit like in a drugstore and at $4.50 each are a deal.  Do not worry about cheaper = less quality. These 'bulbs' are as nice as any on the market and not one failure out of the set. FYI, I did initially think a couple didn't work yet would work in a different light (??? bad light/switch?) . I finally figured out the bottom contacts are plus & minus.  All I had to do is reverse them in the socket.  Voila!
