Please note: this boat is a project boat. The interior is somewhat completed, but still needs some work done. Read through my restoration process and the work that has been completed. Must sell ASAP. Has to be gone by 2/15. The price I've set is WAY lower than the value, and I need to close soon. However, no need to contact with unreasonably low offers.

I bought this 1975 Westsail 32 and have spent the last two years completely restoring it on dry land for over a year, then in the water. It is now absolutely stunning. It has been a complete labor of love for me, and I have spent in excess of $50k in the project. The boat is basically in brand-new condition on the exterior, but the interior still needs a small amount of work. I replaced the old diesel with a brand new Beta 38 marine diesel, new tanks, new everything in the engine compartment; new exterior running and standing rigging; new Awlgrip paint on the topsides and deck; new Pettit on the hull; custom-made tiller/cheeks, boomkin, bowsprit, hatches, and exterior trim; refurbished caprails; restored/repainted mast; all new wiring in majority of boat; all new Raymarine e7D multifunction display, radar, and depth-finder; Blue Sea electrical system; new Spartan seacocks and thru-hulls; all sails except the main are brand new; etc.

This list is no where near complete, but here is an example of some of the equipment upgrades that I've put into the boat, and what it has cost me.

All parts and upgrades brand new as of 2012 and 2013

    Engine Comparment:

2012: Beta 38 Marine Diesel -- $11,500. Currently has 60 hours on it. All maintenance performed on scheduled intervals.

Prop shaft, log, stuffing box, mounts, custom exhaust, muffler, etc. -- $3,300
Two type 31 wet cell batteries and boxes -- $280
Aluminum fuel tanks with site gauges - $1,050
Groco water strainer and Rayco fuel filter - $220

    Rigging:

    All new 7/16" running rigging/shackles - $500
All new 9/32" standing rigging, wires, toggles, forks, etc. - $2,400

    Electronics/Interior:

Raymarine e7D multi-function display, navigation, radar, external GPS, transducer - $2,700
Standard Horizon handheld VHF and stationary Uniden VHF-- $315
Re-wired much of boat, batteries, terminals, fuses, switches - $1,500
LED interior dome lights - $290
    Radio with Bluetooth/USB/speakers - $180
New portlight glass and gaskets - $400

    Hull/Exterior:

Awlgrip paint for topsides and deck - $2,200
    7 Spartan seacocks (tapered valve) and 7 thru-hulls - $1,950
Pettit 4700/4701 bottom primer, Trinidad bottom paint - $1,020
    3 Bronze rudder pintles - $1,070
Custom mahogany boomkin, bowsprit, grab rails, tiller - $1,000
Mast complete restoration/paint by Lefeil (manufacturer) - $2,500

The above totals come out to $34,075, but I easily have over $50k into the boat when counting the miscellaneous "little" items that add up quickly, but not counting the cost I paid for it initially. This also doesn't take into consideration the cost of my labor, which I've sadly valued at $0, despite doing all of the work entirely myself (with the exception of the engine installation).

The boat is my most valued possession, and I can't imagine parting with it. Due to life circumstances, it appears that I have to. Asking $40,000. Make me an offer.

    Tom,

I believe this boat was purchased by someone in New Orleans.  I spoke to the rigger who prepped it for the trip.  I saw it on the truck loaded and ready to go.  From what I could see it was in nice shape.  This was about a month ago.

My boat is also in Long Beach at the same marina.  I did not know the owner.

Walrus is indeed in New Orleans now.  Its pretty interesting because we now have 3 Westsails in our marina, A W42 and 2x W32.  We spoke to the new caretaker/liveaboard of Walrus over the weekend.  The report is that the boat is cosmetically in better shape than it is structurally.

Hello all,  My name is Mike,     I am the person that purchased Walrus.  There few structural deficiencies in terms of weak or flawed parts but there is excessive moisture in the deck as read by meter.  No softness,  but that is the only thing that comes to mind that is a structural deficiency in terms of weakness or general threat to integrity.

That said the accommodation plan is  incomplete,   especially in the forepeak.   There is no galley table.    The sole has crude coverings.   All of this is known as the boat was a project boat.

I feel the amount of upgrades in terms of through hulls,  recent diesel repower,  thorough cosmetic and structural refit, (new bowsprit, boomkin,  chain plates,  rigging,  rewired/repainted mast,  new fuel tanks, new guedeons and pintles on rudder, new radar, etc made this a good purchase from where I stand.

I will be focusing improvements to improve sailability of the boat,  at present there are no jib sheet cars,  cheek blocks on boom for reefing,  method to sheet stay sail,   acquire an asymmetrical spinnaker.    Other areas will be energy independence,  and other livability issues.   Plan is to cruise boat in 2018.

I am not local to boat,  my cousin Jim is the person Tate meet with.   I sail a Bristol 27 here in New Jersey,  kept in Cedar Creek on the Barnegat Bay.

The previous owner did a great job documenting the work he did on Walrus.   If you Google Westsail 32 and Walrus,   I'm pretty sure his blog is one of the top results for anyone interested in the path Walrus has traveled.
