Mast Crack at Base

    Has anybody seen this before ?  There is a crack inside the tabernacle hole. See attached photo.  I am wondering if anybody else repaired this before.  I don't think there is enough room to weld inside the hole...  Has anybody replaced the tube and side plates before ?  Is there any spec for the type of welding rod ?  Any help would be appreciated.   Cheers!     Hello Jon,

          The crack is in the pin tube and not a big deal. If you grind the face of the doubler plate just a little  you will expose where the tube was welded in. If you cut the tube away from inside the mast you can then drill or break out the remainder. Clean up the hole and slide a new tube in. No welding needed just epoxy it in. If I was to do it again I might use a stainless tube instead of aluminum.   Lee
