Hello Bryon, To be specific, the Staysail is not rigged to the forward end of the boom. It is only rigged to the inner stay and flies above the end of the boom. The boom pedestal should be approximately 9” aft of the eye bolt usually used to attach the stay. The tack of the sail should be attached to a pendant to allow the tack to fly approximately 12”” above the bowsprit. The 12”, or more if necessary, should allow the tack to fly just above the pedestal and boom end. I regret I can not accompany this post with photos. The Westsail was originally set up with a 1/2” threaded rod to mount the pedestal. This was not sufficient and needs to be bigger. I am using a 3/4” rod. Good luck
