I searched briefly and found no topic on this.  In reading and preparing for a long offshore passage I came across mention of having an emergency rudder available.

I know the W32 rudder is beafy and well protected but has anyone lost a rudder?  Is there a design available for a stowable one?    I would think that having spare pintles would be a good idea.

Mitch tell us about yourself and your boat .

You asked for it!  I'm a long time large-lake sailor with some coastal cruising.  I bought Quimera, the factory demo boat, last April and am trying to get it ready to go offshore again.  Mexico, then Polynesia.  I am a senior citizen so feel a little pushed to get going.  Luckily I am healthy enough that people think I am 10 years younger.

The boat is in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island (Puget Sound).   I have already taken her to Canada twice single-handed but I find cruising in this area is about 20% sailing.

I have a long list of fixits as she was neglected for several years.
