Hi Westies, i just installed a monitor windward on NellieJo hull #359. I am having some difficulty seeing where to run the lines to the tiller.I have the pushpit on the boomkin with the hoop for the main. Can anyone send pictures of how they ran their lines to the tiller? Thanks in advance, James

Ill see if I can post a picture .....

James , how are you ? Another day closer to retirement ?  I would love to put a Monitor on "Patricia A" , but Ms.westi  has several good reasons why thats' not gonna happen , my only reason is I want one . So I surf the internet looking at them as I was doing last night . here is one that pops up http://www.selfsteer.com/boats/view.php?boatTypeID=2216

Also Westsails own Randy Leisure and others have posted on Youtube ,

(sailing with their Monitors) so there might be some shots that will help .

Hey Mark, yes closer to retirement everyday. I have less than 6 months to go. I'll have to look through the videos and see what I can gather from  those. I saw a monitor on craigslist of $1200 on Friday......just saying...

James  , glad to hear your almost there on the retirement . Yeah I see em' on the bay and CL once in a while . One reason we don't have one is it would put us way over 35' and that would mean having to get a bigger slip so ourselves being retired we need to stay within the budget , at least that's what I'm told .

On the blog Sundowner sails again , I think they have some shots of their Monitor .

The vid here has some shots of Sundowners Monitor working .

I installed a new monitor last year on Funny Girl.  Scanmar was great to work with and the install was a cinch with their custom build they do for westsails.  It all bolts on the pushpit with just some drilling for the bolts.  I was able to install it by myself except for about 15 minutes to have a friend hold it in alignment while i drilled the first two holes.  FYI  Scanmar gives a $1000 tradein for any windvane.  I sent them my old Aries.  That helps with the cost.  They are also working on some better ways to integrate a tillerpilot to the vane mechanism for times you are motoring or whatever... That setup will take a load off the tillerpilot when in rough water.

If you purchase a monitor that was not made for a westsail, the install will be more complicated.  The company offers great call in support if you have questions.

brian boschma with Pelagic autopilots has a kit for his actuator that installs on the monitor. I'm looking to replace my RayMarine ST400 actuator and he's got a perfect replacement. He also has been very helpful with information
