About halyards

Westsail 32 Pablo has the Lafiel mast. Four halyards exit the sheaves at the mast head, two facing fore (Jib and a spare), two towards the aft (Main and a spare).

All four of these halyards go through the mast, and exit the mast through holes.

Three of them exit the mast appropriately above winches to raise sails.

My question is about the fourth one, which is a jib halyard (front of the mast head). It exits the mast about 1 foot above the cabin top, goes through a couple of turning blocks, and is led into the cockpit (near a staysail winch). If only one halyard was going to be led to the cockpit, doesn't make more sense to make it a main halyard? That way one crew could be jumping it, while another winches? Why a jib halyard? It's a lighter sail then the main, and easier for one person to raise. And somebody would still need to be out there to raise the main and staysail anyway.

Good news is you can switch them around anyway you want . On Patricia A the fourth halyard is for the drifter . Hope that helps !
