Hull weeping

    Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help me? Im looking to buy a 42 that has been sat on the hard standing for the last 20 years. It has a crack in the gel coat down the bow and one up each side on the aft of the keel. From what I understand the cracks are where the hull seems we’re bonded together and should be an easy fix.
My question is, that it looks like there’s weeping, possibly from the bilge. Would this be a weakness in the structure? Would a fix be to add layers of glass inside under the prop shaft?

Thanks for any advice you have.

    Sam.

    Sam:

Let me get some more eyes on your question...

In the mean time - check out the W42 construction documents linked at the top of the forum.

Send me an email and I will describe what you see. After all I was responsible for overseeing the design and construction of the plugs and molds for the Westsail 42 as my last project when I was working at Westsail back in 1974.
