Kit Boat Insurance

    Hi Everyone reading these pages.

I am purchasing Westsail 32, hull number 685. It was originally sold as a kit boat and is nearly complete. I plan to launch it next spring/summer 2025, for the first time and finish it out as time permits. It is a beautiful example of a new boat, barn find, and the interior and deck and everything completed is excellent... However, it has never seen water and the systems are yet to be completed. Perfect in my opinion.

I need to ship it from Canada to Michigan and I'd like to take it straight to a yard-not my barn for another 47 years!

I've been denied insurance for age and size and kit boat from Boat US, Hagerty, and NBOA thus far. I am awaiting reply from United Marine Underwriters...

I will have a survey done-I suppose verifying the impeccable soundness hull and deck with original gelcoat-no bottom paint yet... and tight, aesthetically appealing joinery.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thank you!

I answered my own question! The key is finding an experienced agent, not confined to years and words only... through USAA, they use Progressive.
