     Hello WOA,

I"ve been lurkimg in the shadows for a few months now until I became 95% sure that I will purchase Juanita Mae.  Acording to the current owner, She is a 1978 factory finished W32 located on Kodiak island in Alaska. I just recently returned from seeing the boat and it was as I expected.  Her overall condition is good to fair, the top gelcoat and nonskid were in good condition, dirty and slightly faded but should clean up nicley. The last haul out was spring 2010, so the bottom will need a good cleaning and coat of bottom paint, hopefully the through holes are in good shape and there is nothing serious going on down there. The standing rigging was all replaced in 2010 as well and looked great.  The running rigging however didnt look so good so it will all have to be replaced. I have some concerns about the cap rails, the majority of the top wood caprails were taken off and replaced with plastic cap rails. All electrical equipment and radios worked and so did all of the lighting.  New stainless steel water and fuel tanks recently installed with no visable signs of leaking. The sails have been bagged and I didnt pull them out for a full inspection but from what I could see the stitching and fabric seemed sound. I plan on motoring it off the island to Homer Alaska, (About 120 miles) and hauling it out from there. Some issues that need to be addressed are:

The glass in two of the port hole are cracked

Some cosmetic issues down below in the cabin

Hairline stress crack in the bow just below the bowsprit rigging attachment in the fiberglass

    Caprails as previously mentioned

Running rigging, I actually need a diagram since its virtually non existant

    Bottom paint and inspection

Gell coat and nonskid cleaning and polishing, Possibly some minor gellcoat repairs if found

All in all it seemed to be a solid and well cared for vessel, I guess my next step is to contact Bud and request a service and owners manual.  Also, I need to know where the best place to shop for parts specific tho the W32 if somone could direct me in the right direction that would be great.

I'm excited to be apart of WOA and hopefully soon the proud owner of a W32.

    Welcome to the forum.

Bud is probably the best place to purchase stuff specific to the boat.  His prices are good and he knows the boats.

Hope your purchase goes well !

Welcome to the Westsail family! I purchased Nellie Jo (W32 Hull # 359) in June and have great support from this site as well as Bud. Westsail is one of the few boats you can pull our your manual and order parts. Plus Bud is a wealth of information, he has helped me quite a bit. You will find that the other owners are willing to help. I have requested pictures from owners buy just getting there email address from here and actually had someone come to the boat and help me. Like I said it's a great family!

Oh and the Westsails are great boats!

Thanks for the warm welcome guy's, I actually called and talked to Bud yesterday and ordered the manual.  I've been really impressed at the level of support I've recieved so far, it's not very common to be able to pick up the phone and talk direcly to the actual designer of the boat.  We discussed rigging options and he reasured me that the stress cracks at the bow are not structural and only cracked filler and gelcoat. Should be an easy repair when the time comes.  Thanks again.
