Beta 1505 (38) with PRM transmission and 16" 3 blade max prop

    My records show that with the Beta 38 and a 2.5 to 1 reduction transmission the Maxprop set at 28 degrees or 16" pitch (X=D and Y=K), one boat got 6 knots at 1800 RPM.

    Another owner in San Francisco set his at 26 degrees (X=V and Y=B), although I do not have any data from him regarding performance.

    If you have a 2 to 1 reduction, then the prop should be set to a lower degree, such as about 20 or 22 degrees.

    Dick has his set at 20 degrees or 11" pitch X=K Y=E
     
    From Bud, 28 degrees or 16" pitch X=D and Y=K

    From Max-prop, 24 degrees or 13.4" pitch  X=S Y=C

    I also have the 2.5:1 tranny ratio Bud

    My notes show that Bud Taplin recommended 18 degrees for me.  I also talked with the Maxprop guy at PYC.  He said 20.  18-20 are pretty much the same answer.

    I do get full RPM at full throttle.   I certainly do not get 6 knots at 1800 RPM.  With a very clean hull and a polished prop I get 5 knots.  With only a month's fouling I get only 4.5 knots at 1800.

    It you do use 26 or 28 degrees, and you do get 6 knots, please let me know.  I'll switch.

    Dick, what is your tranny ratio? If you look at the tranny from the top there is a brass plate. At the bottom of the plate is a number that starts with 120... the last 3 digits are the ratio... mine says 250.

    I guess that means mine is a 2.0 ratio and yours is 2.5.

    It's oversimplification but if I set my pitch at 20 degrees it is equivalent to 25 degrees with your ratio.  Do I interpret that right?

    Sorry for the confusion.  These questions come at a time when I'm underway every day and it's hard to access stuff.

    Dick - there is a number after the 120D2 ... the 120D2 is the PRM model number.
    Mine is 120D2-250
