Perkins Cooling Elbow

    Since Bud must be on vacation I'll try posting this here. 

    I need to replace this item and at the Perkins place in Panama City they don't have a number or part as it's a marinized engine.

    Does anyone have a spare, a source or a part number or information on a best change?

    I'll call Sheri Moon at TAD for you. I don't recall if they are open on Saturday or not, but they could be.

    It appears that the model number of the elbow is stamped into the base. See if you can make it out. If not, she can probably tell you what it is anyway, from the engine serial number. It's likely that it's a Bowman cooler, rather than Perkins. 

    When you send the email, give me a good time to Skype you, assuming your bandwidth is still good enough for an audio call.

    A fix I recall using on a similar fitting on an International Harvester engine - and as a last resort - you might try cleaning all the rust off and if you have enough metal left - using JB Weld epoxy to rebuild the fitting.  The patch I used lasted for at least 5 years that I used the engine.

    Found the correct part and order is being placed... thanks.  I would never have thought of using JB Weld (or any epoxy) to do a repair on this elbow. But, since JB Weld is supposed to take temps up to 500 degrees, it probably would work fine. Thanks for the tip... I'll stick that one in my memory file.

    Trans Atlantic Diesel has the part.   $150 + shipping.  When I get it I'll  look closely at it and think I may be able to make a spare out of Bronze plate and a bronze elbow. Should then last forever and be much more reasonable.  However; in Panama, some things are reasonable and some things are not.
