Running my sheets inside the stays for a hanked on Genoa

In an effort to point higher going up wind, I am considering running my Genoa sheets inside my stays and wondered if anyone else has tried this? I have toyed with a smaller  90% sized Genoa at anchor that seems to fly without touching the spreaders and I don't see why my smaller Yankee couldn't do the same. My staysail will fly higher up wind compared to the genoa, but I would like to get a bigger sail area driving me forwards. Of course it would all depend on the strength of the wind but would anyone like to tell me if this is a crazy or great idea to try? Thanks. Peter

I tried it and it didn't work. I sailed from Anagada to Virgin Gourda today in a light 10knot breeze and had a chance to experiment with different configurations and came to the conclusion that running the sheets inside the stays is a bad idea. I could get about 5 knots at 70 degrees off the wind, but as soon as I tried to climb higher my boat speed dropped off. Oh well. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
