Navigation Lights

    I have a strange set of navigation lights on my W32, one of which (Stbd) has a broken fresnel lens. I have done a considerable amount of searching and cannot seem to find any information on it to get a replacement lens.

    I know at one time, Westsail offered "traditional side lights" by Perko, but I don't believe this is it (no photo or illustration appeared in the Build Manual). It's likely that the original owner found them somewhere and stuck them on. If anyone recognizes the light, or even the logo, please let me know. If I can't find a lens, I'll end up replacing all three.

    That bird looking symbol is the Goiot logo.  You might try their web site.

    Hmmm... just tried their site, but no nav lights. The logo is very similar, but different. I very much appreciate the tip anyway.

    Jack, this is Goïot Logo old version back in 1970. I found another guy who is selling the exact same navigation light follow the link below... at least now you know what is the brand...

    Thanks, François. And thanks again to you, Kevin. When I looked at Goïot's website, it didn't look as though it would have been the same company and the logo was indeed different.

    The ones for sale are interesting, but only the aft light has a lens. Perhaps with a little searching I can find the missing starboard fresnel.

    Something I'd like to lay hands upon is a set of nav lights that are self-contained, battery-powered (e.g. D cell) and use LEDs for light.  No more wires to run and repair, no more tracking down shorts, just clip 'em on and flip 'em on!

    That would be nice, Terry.  I wonder how long a set of batteries would last, considering the a minimum visibility requirement of 1nm. I do have 2 or 3 LED alternatives for anchor lights just in case.

    I just ordered some LED nav lights off of eBay. I don't know if they'll be any good or not, but I thought I'd try to modify my existing Gioit lights (pictured above) to use them. Since I'm in the process of rewiring the whole boat, I'm not concerned about having to run down and repair the wiring and/or track shorts.

    My fresnel lenses are colored glass and it seems impossible to find a replacement for the broken one. But since the lights I ordered are red/green, I should be able to fabricate a clear lens easily enough. The lights are kind of funky looking, though quite interesting when mounted on the light boards. We'll see how they turn out.
