Having sailed Liberate some 1400 miles south down the west coast I am more than pleased with her sea worthiness....One area that I must attend to is her ability to keep the crew in the Cockpit wet in heavy seas. There is a definite need to try and retrofit cockpit combings that prevent seas washing don the decks and flooding the cockpit. Is there any advice by trial and or error for a suitable design? any suggestions on Fiberglass versus wood? Any opinions on the Hans Christian style Dam versus Combings?

    Terence,

Check out this elegant solution on W32 Myskatonic (formerly Elena):

whoops! Guess I haven't figured out how to post photos to this new version of the forum.  I'll get back to you.

    Steve,

Can you provide a link to the photo or email it to us?  I'd love to see what it is.

    Thanks,

I have heard of some that go diagonally between the aftmost part of the cabin trunk and the bulwark..anyone got any pictures of that?
What happens to the water trapped on the cockpit side (on the deck?)

Yep, that's it.  Kind of hard to see in this photo.  I have a higher res version that I'll e-mail to Jay.  Maybe he can put it on the site somewhere.

I have a number of pictures of various versions of cockpit coamings I have seen on the boats.  Send me an email I can send them to you.

Full members can access many images of Westsails at Images from the members page.  I've setup albums and I can add images as needed - or divide up an album into specific topics....

Go to the members photo albums and look at Siempre Sabado's album.  There are 2 large photos of Myskatonic (ex-Elena)'s coamings.
