Double Sinks - W32

    Pam was on the boat for a few days and had a great time --- but the single SS sink and faucet made washing dishes a pain.

    Options are to modify the exising single sink to a double sink and loose some below counter storage or use a seperate bucket to wash or rinse the dishes.

    Also does anyone use a trap under the sink?

    Can you recommend a small deep double sink -- and faucet that you like?

    Funny how the sink is never the right one.

    We have the double sink: 22W X 16.5D , each sink is 9.5D and 9.5W. and if the honey-dew list had fewer projects, I'd have it changed to a single, deep sink. We had to buy new pans so the handles could fit in but gallon size pans won't fit, larger dinner plates won't sit flat, and it's very cumbersome to have both hands in the small sink area washing dishes. Pans are impossible. Because it is deep, the under sink area has lost some space but not really missed. We have measured the opening to install a standard kitchen sink but  counter modification is needed. Of course, why would it fit perfectly.

    We replaced the standard size faucet with a high reach to allow filling tall pans, water jugs, etc. without tipping it sideways.

    As liveaboards the double sink is a not the solution and I'd have the wash/rinse pan, and give up the few inches below the counter.

    Thanks for the feed back on  the double sink -- I'll look for the modified faucet.  Rather not mess with the exising sink and storage etc.

    FWIW, we're very pleased with our "double" sink. It's a fiberglass RV sink, bought on ebay for about $60. We were already installing a new counter and modifying the galley, so it was practicable to make this work; it may not be in yours. But I think the large, strange shape is very useful, and the small basin in the back is great for keeping soapy water in while washing dishes in the main sink.

    That does look really nice Aaron!  We are also doing a makeover on our galley, and are looking at putting in a similar sink.  Did you have to cut the bulkhead under the sink?  That vertical plywood that makes up the back of the cabinet was in the way for us to install a larger sink, and I couldn't bring myself to cut it, but so far I haven't found a sink that we like that fits in the front 13" of the counter.

    Yeah, it won't work for everyone. It took some doing!

    Yes, we did modify the engine room bulkhead to accommodate the sink. We attached insulation to the underside and seal the area off. That bulkhead is not structural, so it seemed OK to modify, especially considering the extent of modification elsewhere.

    Hi Aaron, That really does look good! I want one!! Bruce says to tell you he hates you - we are in the middle of a major refit in Thailand, so it is the perfect time... However, I think he is saved by the lack of rv gear in south Thailand.

    I got some photo's of the sink area and posted on Picasa where you can review my issues. 

    1. I think I'll just look for a 4" pull-out faucet instead of a whole sink unless I can get a deeper one in the same or about the same cutout. 

    2. Replace the thru hull with a Marlon model -- or can I combine the galley sink and head sink into a single thruhull - or should I just convert one of the 2 - 35 gallon fresh water tanks to grey water holding tanks.  Then add a pump out port as well as a Y valve to dump over board?

    While reviewing the web site found this image of a double sink in a W32 that looks like it might fit in Pygmalion.  Does anyone recognize the boat and maybe have the details of the sink and installation.
