I am about to install a new mohogany cap rail. I am thinking of using boatlife life caulk black. Should I mask  the edges and slather this stuff on like peanut butter and screw it down or should I run two long beads screw it down and finish out the seam? How many tubes will the correct procedure use? I have already saturated the wood with epoxy.

Alan:  Please review this link http://www.westsail.org/westsailFAQ?mode=MessageList&eid=491881  for how several have handled the caprail sealing.

In short, you don't want to glue down the caprails as removing them later would probably destroy the caprail material.  Rather most will clean up the fiberglass joint area and fill and level off the area with your choice of sealer - in my case Life Caulk (sp?) let it harden / cure and then install the caprails.  See the above for details.

Jay: Thanks for the links! I have not seen these before. My hull deck joint is the older shear clamp type. Did you let caulking totally dry before screwing down the cap rail, and do you think you would use more caulking as a result of trying to seal the hull deck joint?  I wish I could post a picture of my uncovered bulwark to show you that it is completly sealed with a fiberglass layup but kinda uneven. Alan: Email me your images and I'll post for you...

Yes the Life Calk was cured before the caprail is installed and yes filling the large gap took plenty of Calk.  So far very pleased with the result.
