I am away from my boat again trying to order parts and wanted to know if anyone has installed safety nets? If so how much will I need and is polypropylene better or worse than the DuPont #36 nylon?

    Thanks in advance

Here's a picture of what was on our boat.  We really like it but after 30 years
we had to take off.  A couple years ago we bought a spool of rope to
replace it but haven' decided on it yet.

    Jim,
About how many feet do you think I'll need to order? I was thinking 40' per side but I know that's too much.

Micheal, I thought I had estimated the amount needed but after checking my notes I hadn't. I ordered a 600' roll of rope and if it turns out not to be enough I'll order more.

    Jim,

Sounds like you tie the netting I am planning on purchasing a pre made net from defender.com. I'll just do a guess and order 80' that's got to cover the entire boat with some to spare.

Hey did you get your bow spirit and sampson post from Bud? If I remember you have a stainless type.

Micheal,  the netting was hand tied long on before we bought the boat.  It runs from the bow to the stantion near the back of the cabin where the gate is. We're not sure when or if we will re-install it.

The bow sprite was purchased from Bud several years ago.  We removed it to have the U-bolt installed last year.  That led to having it professionally polished, which costs almost as much as the bow sprite.

Dave Brown of the Westsail 32 Mandella fabricated the knights heads and added the U-bolt for me. I wanted them to go through the deck and tie into the bulk head as the wood one's had. They're a work of art, You can't even find the welds.  We polished them ourselves as they were small.

    Jim,

Wow I am amazed as that thing is or has to be a work of art. Have you considered charging admission to see it :). It's a Mona Lisa and fits the westsail so naturally. Question; are the knights head curved ever slightly or just looks that way in the photo. I love this look but for me my reality is wood until I fully understand the cutter rig. Then I may get one from Bud. Anyone know how much he charges for one? I have a price book but it appears to be a little outdated.

Thanks for the kind words.  They are perfectly straight.
