Portlight help, advice

    We are rebedding our portlights and I need a little help. 
    1. First where can I obtain new hardware and specifically the fasteners that hold the portlights to the cabin. Some were a bear to remove we ended up fracturing a few.
    2. Is there an gizmo that will hold the portlights open. Yea I can fab a hook to the cabin roof but I would like to see what other options are out there. 
    3. I would also like advice or opinions on renedding them using butyl tape. Ill be using this stuff to rebed everything on the decks but the portlights I am out so sure about, is this a bad idea?
    4. Last but not least. How do you take the portlight out after every screw is removed. I tryed prying a little, then a putty knife behind it but nothing. I don't want to damage my cabin or the ports.

    I have original bronze hooks for my portlights.
    I dont know how anyone could do without them.

    Thanks Carl I got the photos. I am headed to Fisheries Supply to see if I can spend a few dozen boat bucks. Ill look into getting the hooks.

    How'd you like my original headliner?  It's actually in great shape, it reminds me of a 70's muscle car. I will be removing it in about a year and replacing it with bedboard and insulation.

    on the super stuck portlights (might be 5200)?
    3M makes a release for the stuff  = devils glue release

      rumor has it that glycol (anti freeze) chews 5200 up +/-  I don't know personally, but in the rumor mill they say it is so.

    Opps it was ethanol not polyglycol that was on the rumor mill.

    We have the earlier small portlights on our boat... And while it sounds really really podunk... My wife and I just use chopsticks to hold the portlights open.  Have never had an issue even in heavy air.

    The hooks are awesome.
    We open and close 14 windows at least 1.5 times daily.
    The hooks are nautically attractive and incredibly practical, and they dont slam shut while sailing.
    I believe them to be original westsail install as they are quality and look like they belong with.   I couldnt imagine an old time bronze portlight without em.

    Yea I have the same problem with photos and I'm a nerd, lol. Thanks against for the photos and no need for apologies I needed to see them. Yah that headliner is 70s lol but I am not bagging on it.

    I may also need to get chopsticks because I too have nothing to put a hook on, seriously why? The portlights are stout in every way except the designer forgot a place to hook for open mode. Oh well time to get creative. 


    Ill be looking for the devils cure or what ever it was called 

    Once I find the bronze or brass male screws and I think the female is termed a "sex bolt", I can get this project completed!! 


    P.s. Carl our boat still needs a lot of work but thanks for the complement. Oh and ill try to test the rumor for you this week if weather permits.
