Mysterious Green Light

Can anybody tell me what the green light above my steaming light is for?  Again it is above the steaming light about 7/8th's up the mast with a silver cover below, so it shines straight ahead and up.  I'm confused.  I have the steaming and anchor lights, but this one is an anomaly.

If I'm not mistaken, the old lighting pattern for sailboats was a red over green on the mast.  It's probably an artifact from those days.  I have the same thing on my boat.

Terry is right, the red over green denoted a vessel under sail.  No longer applicable.  Some owners have replaced one of the lenses with a clear one for a white steaming light under power, and the other old lens should have the bulb removed.
