Sail the Caribbean This Season
Ellipsis is an owner-built kit boat with a 1977 hull (#692) that was launched in 1981. We have been actively cruising this boat for the last 15 years, including winter 2012. She is fully equipped for cruising NOW. The boat is on the hard on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico since June 2012. Now is a perfect time to survey the boat, launch her, and sail the islands!
As a result of a 2006-2007 refit, a Beta 38 hp will confidently take you out of the harbor and on your way. You will raise a full batten tanbark main sail, loose-footed staysail, and super yankee jib on a Profurl roller (all by Kern), or if the winds are light use the asymmetrical spinnaker with dousing sock and dedicated sheets. The standing rigging has been regularly maintained and replaced, and there is a new stainless steel bowsprit and long pulpit along with mast rails, all from Bud Taplin, who installed the Beta and knows the boat.
The Cape Horn wind vane steering will keep her on course while you put ice cubes in your drink from the Dometic (Adler-Barbour) refrigerator, powered by two 120-volt Kyocera solar panels custom-mounted on rear rails and a KISS wind generator on a dedicated pole. Radar is on the mast.
A 33# genuine Bruce and a 35# Delta both with chain and rode will keep you secure at night. The cabin is a two-settee, fold-down table layout and pull-out berth in the salon. There is 120v air-conditioning with vents into the forward V-berth and the main salon.
Why the low price? Two reasons. First, we have to prioritize some family and health concerns. Second, Ellipsis still has her original teak decks and wood cabinetry, furniture, and sole below deck. Some repairs on the interior woodworking should be done, and the teak deck needs re-caulking. However, Ellipsis is ready to sail again this season and you can work on these repairs while you cruise.
