SoCal Westsail Isthmus Spring Break Cruise Out , April 5-8th, 2018
To encourage Westsailors Old and New to take off the canvas covers, do a little spring commissioning and start the season off right we are adding this very informal spring break week to the SoCal agenda!!! There will be the bare minimum of scheduled get togethers because this week should be all about family friendly fun in the sun and water. Moorings will fill up fast so why not come over Thursday to secure a spot, or start the week in Avalon and end at the Isthmus. Or sail around the back side to Cat Harbor, enjoy the peace and quiet , and just meet up for Potluck on Sat. Night.
If you are unable to bring your boat but would like to attend we may be able to find you a crew position so let us know. Or the Catalina flyer out of San Pedro makes several trips a day. There are a few options for staying ashore including tent camping, tent cabin camping, seasonal employee bunk house rentals (private rooms shared bathrooms and cooking area) and the lovely Banning house B&B. But make sure to book well in advance because accomodations ashore will fill up early this time of year! If you book a campsite there is a truck that will deliver all your coolers and gear up the hill. We can also land dinghies on the beach below the campground – so wannabe westsailors can host a campfire one night, and come hang out on the boats another. Just let us know you are coming and we will make sure you get plenty of boat visiting time!
. Look for the Westsail 32s at the west side if the Isthmus, on moorings C and D. If you plan to attend please let us know the name and size of your boat, and how many nights you plan to stay.
Mooring fee is based on manufacturers stated length – 10’ to 29’ is $38 per day, 30’ to 39’ $46.00 is per day, 40’ to 49’ is $54.00 per day
The planned loose schedule will include the following events:
THURSDAY or FRIDAY ARRIVAL – If coming by boat, call the Harbormaster on VHF channel 9 when you arrive at the harbor. Be sure and let them know you are here to attend the WOA rendezvous. Look for the Westsail 32s at the west side if the isthmus, on moorings C and D. for any needed help in mooring your vessel. Meet and greet any new faces and plan to attend a casual get acquainted happy hour aboard on one of the boats each night. Which one will be determined and announced. Feel free to bring your own and a little to spill to the gods of the sea.
THURSDAY evening – Welcome appetizers and drinks on that evening’s host boat (to be announced – a different one each night is the plan! – look for boat flying both the Westsail and Cocktail burgee.)
FRIDAY – Informal Boat visiting and generally decompressing to island time. Cocktail hour at the bar at 5 and Dinner ashore at the restaurant at 7. Nightcaps on the evening’s host boat.
SATURDAY – Meetup for coffee and check in at the Café deck at 9. . Informal boat visiting. Dinghy races at 2 pm from the BBQ beach. . Potluck on the beach at 5 pm. BYOB (bring your own beef and a side or desert to share). Rum and sea stories on the evening’s host boat (TBD)
SUNDAY – Breakfast at the café at 8. Departures.
Upon arrival hail Isthmus Harbor Patrol on VHF Channel 9 and ask for a mooring on B or C line. But please also let us know you are coming, with or without your boat:
