I am about to install horned hawes pipes amid ships. I was wanting to know what location to install, equidistant from for and aft hawes pipes or???? Since these are oblong and not round should they be parallel with the rub rail or the cap rail? I have not been able to find pictures or dimensions on the web nor in the Westsail mannual. Any ideas?

They should probably be parellel with the deck, and about where the scupper drains are.  Be sure to back them up well, as the pull of dockline on the horns will cause the hawse pipes to loosen, and you will have leaks there.  My usual recommendation is to install a hawse pipe, and put a cleat just ahead of it, with a 3/8 aluminum backup plate on the inside of the deck bulwark.  You can reach in there once the hole is cut for the hawse pipe, and drill and tap the backup plate to accept the fasteners for the cleat.  Stick the plate in place with a spot of caulking to hold it in place.
