I have a 56 horsepower Yanmar diesel in the Heron and we don't know who made the transmission. Do you have any ideas as to what transmission people used for the Yanmar engines? This is a shot in the dark, as usual.
Thanks,

Steve,
Most Yanmars of the size we use have either a KBW 20 or a KBW21. This is or was Yanmar's standard transmission. Kanzaki-Carl Hurth KBW 20 or KBW 21.
If your engine is a 4JHE or a 4JHTE then the transmission is a KBW 20
If your engine is a 4JH-HTE or a 4JH-DTE then the transmission should be a KBW21
For basic maintenace, oil for both is Dexron ATF, I use a turkey baster to suck out the old thru the fill cap, if it has been a long time you might want to have it tested for metal bits,
These tranny's are noisy so if you are worried about rattle at low rpm this is normal and should go away at 1,000+ rpm or so-
Hope this helps, lemmee know if you need more info.
