Question about shaft log for my W42. The current log on my boat was fabricated in Mexico, theoretically Bronze. I have learnt the Mexican Bronze is not Bronze as it should be on my boat. What should I do?

    Hi Ivan,

I have been doing major refit of our W42. I was going to replace my shaft log bearing housing. Buck Algonquin has a shaft log  bearing housing part number - 10slw1002 which is almost identical to the one on our W42. I ordered it and am keeping it as a spare. I was able to reuse my old shaft log for now.

The only difference between the old one and new one from Buck Algonquin is that the tube ID is a little smaller. The shaft on our W42 is 1 1/4 ". This meant that the cutlass bearing wall thickness was / would be thinner, i.e. -rubber bearing surface was thinner. Of course this depends on the prop shaft size. While doing mine I had talked to Ed Herald who had a W43. I talked to the boat yard that was working on his W43 and they used the Buck Algonquin shaft log mentioned above.

    Good luck.

    Best wishes.

    Regards,
