rudder gudgeon corrosion

Hi all. We've got rudder gudgeon corrosion. We're hauled out and have found pretty significant corrosion on our rudder gudgeons (W32). We're going to attempt to remove them and inspect the underside. I'm thinking we may be able to grind out the pits, weld and grind to fill, and stress relieve the welds with a torch. The middle gudgeon has the pin pressing against rudder, suggesting that something has settled or worn. We've been advised that the rudder can be removed by attaching a halyard to the tiller bolt. Anyone experienced this or have intel we can use? W32 gudgeon corrosion pics

Found good info in the online service manual: http://www.westsailparts.com/ServiceManual/index.php?chapter=D#D-08 Describes what we're seeing pretty well. Ours never had zincs I guess and it looks like removal and repair (welding) are in order.

    Apologies for cross-posting with Facebook.
