Chain Plates

In the process of investigating how to remove the chain plates, I noticed that the starboard bull works seem to have shifted or built so tight that I can not get to the top bolts, there is probably 1 inch access. Port side seems OK.

Does any body have any idea how to remove the top bolt.  I'm contemplating drilling holes in the bull works to get to the bolt but before I do this I need some advice.

    James:

check out this link with a set of images... of how I removed the chain plates on the stb side.. I used a ratching end wrench that from the inside allowed access.

The problem is that there is no access from the inside since the bull works are so tight.  I can barely slide a wrench in there.

There should be a ~ 2.5" to 3"+ gap - how about taking a picture and emailing to me... I'll add to your post.
