Lofrans is the windless we chose and has been a work horse for fifteen years. We anchor a lot and also use it to go up the mast. We consider it to be one of the best investments we have made in the boat. Getting rid of the manual windless and going to electric was one of the best choices we've made. When you are in a hot tropical anchorage and have to reset the anchor a couple of times, as we have, you will really appreciate being able to step on a button to pull in the chain.
Last year we decided to refit the windless before returning to Mexico. There was nothing wrong with it but I thought it would be a good idea to replace the seals and repaint the case, ours was white enamel. But then we found a brand new anodized Lofrans Tigress for only $2100 on the internet and upgraded to it.
Lofrans seems to be the work horse of cruisers and failures are rare. That can't be said of most other brands. Some friends of ours went through three Simpson Lawrence in three years.
