Holding Tank

    Hi Bud,

My Lectra-San has finally given up up on me. It is located under the port side settee at the bulkhead. I am thinking of putting a holding tank there. By my calculations, I think a tank of about 12 or so gallons capacity will fit in the space. Rather than use the locker under the port v-berth for a holding tank, I would like to put a 15 gallon water tank there to gravity feed into the main tanks which would also allow me to put in a deck fill up forward somewhere. I'd appreciate your opinion (and parts) on this. I've posted this on the forum rather than contact you directly in case other members have done something similar. Look forward to catching up with you at the Florida East Coast Rendezvous in October.

I do have access to the tanks that you will need.  Call me, or send an email and I will discuss it with you.

You might want to read the threads about being bow heavy.  Since I am already bow heavy I am sensitive to adding any more weight forward anymore than absolutely necessary.

That 15 gallons forward represents about 125 lbs not counting the weight of the tank.  Quite a lot for what amounts to a reservoir.

That said, having a fresh water deck fill would be nice.

    Mike,

Thanks for the input. Rhapsody floats pretty well on her lines. Right now, I am about 200 lb. shy on fuel and the bobstay tang is about 1" under water. I will be mounting my Aries one of these days and currently have lead pigs in the space aft of the engine added by the original owner, with space for more if needed. I've considered the additional weight forward and being a consumable resource will only be a temporary weight. Water has always been my limiting factor when on a cruise. I live aboard and the v-berth is my bedroom. Sleeping above a holding tank just gives me the willies and I've always wanted to rig up a deck fill. I'll try to document this particular project with photos when I quit planning and start doing just in case anybody is interested.
