Glassing Bulkheads to hull

    On  bulkhead, have any of you reworked some of the bulkheads and glassed them to the hull...?  Have you placed foam between the bulkhead and hull or held the bulkhead uniformly off the hull and filled the space with resin / micro ballon mix, and made a fillet, then glassed ...?  Or just placed the bulkhead directly on the hull...? All this addresses Hard spot issues...? But our hulls are so thick that this may not really be a problem....? Any input..... The ones that I am referring to support the I beam and compression post...

    Foam---Coosa or similar or marine plywood if you can't get the foam. Cut to 3" or 4"wide and bevel at 45 degrees.  Kerf the backside every 2" or so it bends.  SOAK in resin and bond to hull without holidays.  Use thickened epoxy with milled fiber and chopped strand mat not microballoons.  Then after that bonds you can tab the ply onto the foam and because you have a bevel the fillet will be perfect.  Again thicken epoxy then saturate your cloth (Use the best cloth you can get) then lay the saturated cloth over the fillet and roll out the bubbles so no holidays.

    Make sure you prep the hull and ply well each time before you start.

    We always specified that the three main structural bulkheads have a faom fillet between the edge of the plywood and the hull.  The rest of the furniture bulkheads do not need them because they do not go all the way across the hull.  It is a good idea to add an angular fillet between the face of the rest of the bulkheads and the hull to make the bonding fiberglass lay in easier.
