Hi All! I've been missing from WOA for a couple of years, was working internationally and travellling a lot more, but have just re-joined and I am happy to get back to enjoying SoCal sailling aboard W28 Adele again this summer (she's getting her bottom repainted next week and the last couple of nagging items aloft sorted so we'll be hitting Catalina by mid-July for a week long vacation). We had a great time at the Isthmus several times last summer building confidence "cruising" locally with the kids . Sorry to have just missed the SoCal Rendezvous but will catch up with folks next year (kids baseball tournament conflicted - but truthfully the caprails were also too embarrisingly in need of re-varnish for me to think about bringing her down last minute). Will be taking care of that soon, too.
Also - if anyone is interested, I've just joined what I think is a great low-key "Offshore cruising" club. They have been leasing Little Geiger Cove since 1958. They limit membership to 25 (because that's all that fits in the cove) but currently have openings for four or five new members at the moment. Membership is pretty reasonable, especially for 1/2 year that's left. For me (with the kids since we're not truly going offshore anytime soon) it's a great opportunity for an alternate destination, to gain a bit more confidence with anchoring out - but with lots of help standing-by to take stern lines to shore, and for hosted potluck BBQs and socializing organized a couple of times a month at the Tea House deck. It also looks like a really pretty quiet little cove for the kids to play, fish and snorkel. So a good fit for us, but thought I'd mention it if anyone else is looking for an excuse to get the boat out of the slip a bit more often. Let me know and I'll forward the Commodore's contact info - they sound like a great bunch folks, just like the Westsailors I know! Will post pics and update after our first trip to check it all out.
Cheers,
Colleen Crystal
