Propane cook stove for WS 32

    I have a Shipmate cook stove that has been converted from kerosene to propane. The former owner did the conversion and said he could only get the oven up to about 250 degrees. Does anybody know where I an buy the actual propane burners (need three) that were made by Shipmate? Also, failing that. What two burner plus over propane gimballed stoves are out there. I notice Dickinson only makes diesel cook stoves.

    Hi Steve,

    We've been really happy with a consignment shop stove we bought.  It's a "Gas Systems" brand and was originally a CNG stove.  Before we bought it it had been converted to propane. Looking under the hood I see it's actually a Hellig stove made by Seaward (or is it a Seaward stove made by Hellig?).  The oven thermostat actually works which is apparently a rare commodity on boat stoves.  We can't reach the temperatures listed on the thermo but we do get up into the 400-425 range.  And, unlike most small stoes we've used, this oven desn't burn the bottom of everything before the top is done.  So, you might look at the Seaward line if this stove is any indication of their quality.

    Thanks a lot. I am looking at a Force 10, but not sure it will fit in the former Shipmate slot.

     We upgraded to a Force 10 stove two years ago and as liveaboards we could not be happier with our stove. The part # is frc 60351. This is a 2 burner model, gimballed, with an oven and broiler all works great. The overall width is approx.22 1/4 inches wide ( check the manf. specs if you are not sure they also make a euro model that is smaller and a 2 burner with broiler ONLY if you don't need the oven).The 2 burner w/ oven and broiler was a perfect fit for our factory finished boat ( #810 ). One of the easiest upgrades we have done so far, $ 1,000.00 - $ 1,200 US seams to be the going rate. All the parts we needed were in the box. Good luck. hope it goes as well for you as it did for us.

    Hi Bob and Dawn,

    Thanks for the data. I was close to buying a Force 10 or Seaward. There just happens to be one in stock at Hamilton Marine here in Maine. I think I will get the two burner model. I have been tearing my hair out to find replacement REAL propane burners for this Shipmate and can't locate anything except kerosene burners that have been 'worked on.' My wife said she wants a new stove, so that took care of it. I just bought HERON (#809) and am upgrading a lot of stuff. Batteries, chart plotter, VHF with AIS, automatic solar powered vent fan, and that's about it for now. Hope to launch in early June. Next investment is an electronic device that will scare away seagulls. If that works I'll get the Maine fishermen's version of the Medal of Honor.

    I could not find a part number as you listed, but it is probably because they have changed something and changed the numbers. Are you the first owners of 810? Was your boat built in CA or NC? I am the fourth owner and don't know who the original owner was. The second owner died of that bad leukemia that nails you in a couple years. The third owner lives about 20 miles from me and the boat was in VA. I had it hauled home by truck and it is sitting in dooryard now as a huge lawn ornament.     Hi Aaron,

    If it fits, it ships. I will go by the dealer tomorrow and eyeball the stove. It looks like I will be getting the two burner version. There is $2 difference in price. If I was sure the 3 would fit, I might consider it. I think it is taller. Thanks for the information.

    If you can get the 3 burner, I suggest doing so. It gives more options, more backup, more space for a large pot. It fits for us - but good luck! I happen to like making soups, pasta, and sauces, coffee, etc...so 3 is good.

    Hi Steve, 
      We are the 4th owners of Treasure. She is a Ca. boat and the story goes like this- The original owner ordered a factory finished boat from Westsail corp. and they apparently worked on the boat 'til the factory shut down in '79-'80. The boat wasn't quite finished and the owner went to the factory and retrieved it. trucked her all the way back east (Conn. I believe) and hired a retired boat builder to finish her off. The retired boat builder was not highly motivated as it took 8 years! to complete the project. He did however do a superb job. She was then sailed through the Caribbean, through the canal and on up the west coast and sold. The next owner sailed her around Puget Sound and sold her to the guy we bought her from. He and his girl friend had plans to sail to Hawaii and beyond but put back into port in Portland Ore. and sold her to us.
      Her original name was CZARDAS and remained that until we bought her. After a year of hearing " Nice boat, whas that name mean?" ( It's a Hungarian folk dance fer peats sake) and me bein' Scots I began makin' up stuff about what the name means.  You know stuff like - "its Hungarian fer ya ask alotta questions ya gomeral" - or- "It's Hungarian and ya just offered to by me a drink, mate". My wife found this behavior very unattractive so we did the JV ceremony had a priest bless her and changed her to Treasure.
      As a landscape designer I would like to point out that using a Westsail as a lawn ornament is totally inappropriate, an old toilet bowl full o' flowers ? fine, an old bed made into a flower bed (get it?) sure, but your Westsail??? I'm jus sayin.......

    I agree. I'm going to beat this thing to death with my measuring tape. She wants three as she's somewhat of one hell of a cook.
