Head and Holding Tank Photographs

    Werner,

My system used a LectraSan and the vented loop was inside the outer, taller cabinet. I was in a hurry to get out of the yard when my daugher/granddaughter came down, and needed to make sure my system was "legal". Not having time to recondition the LectraSan after many years in the yard, I removed the plumbing and temporarily installed the PortaPotty from my van. This was a temporary quick fix, so I still need to install a complete system when I return to the yard (which may or may not use the LectraSan).

I notice that your vented loops are inside the inner cabinet (the sink cabinet). Obviously, this should be above waterline when at anchor, since it's above the level of the water in the sink. Are there ever times that it creates a problem on a Stbd tack?

PS: Posting an image with a Mac is quite easy, once you know how. You need to open two separate window (not tabs)... one window containing the Picasa page (or other image source page) and a second window containing the blog post editor. Then, you simply click/drag the image from the source page to the editor. The blog editor, however, does not allow you to resize the image that you drag. As such, the original needs to be a maximum of 475px wide, or the editor will whack out the display of the entire post (I'm sure you've seen this happen, where some of the text runs beyond the border and can't be seen.)

I would have created an instruction post on the "Web Site How-to" page, but that thread is locked out for everyone but Admin.

UPDATE: I did go ahead and create a post on uploading photos for the Mac and Jay graciously added it to the "Web Site How-to" section in "Posting pictures in a forum topic". Now that it has been moved to this section, I can no longer edit the post. But if anyone has questions or problems following the instructions, please let me know. I'm sure that Jay would be happy to alter the post for me.

Jack: I'll add your procedure to the how to page.
    Thanks.

    Jack,

Thanks for the how to. I still miss a few Windows features, but not many. So far the vented loop location has not caused a problem on the starboard tack. The head sink drain at the sink is slightly lower than the vented loop and I get no "splash up" there as I sometimes do in the galley sink. I have the old WC Head Mate and as long as the head intake valve on the head itself is off, the bowl does not fill while sailing either. My Lectra San has also packed up and is not worth repairing and also is no longer legal for 0 discharge areas anyway. I will keep the present lines and vented loops and put a holding tank in its place under the port forward settee. Did you get to the Bahamas?

    Werner,

I look forward to checking out your installation at the upcoming rendezvous. I still need to decide what to do with my system... which parts to keep and which to scrap.

I stopped at Loggerhead Marina in Stuart on the way to the Bahamas and due to weather, I ended kept postponing my departure... I didn't want to make the crossing in rough seas with my daughter / granddaughter along on their first voyage. Every time it started to clear, something else would begin to move in. Then, after they went back to Denver, I just got too comfortable here. I'm actually planning to cross in the next few days (before the end of the month) and will return directly to the rendezvous from the Abacos.

    Jack

PS: For what it's worth, Werner, this idiosyncrasy is not actually a due to "Windows feature". It's simply that Wild Apricot chooses to follow the design standards for Microsoft's "Internet Exploder", rather than the the global design standards set by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).

Try as I might, I can't upload images to this post from a MAC. Here's the link to Picasa with the photos. Let me know if you can view them. Are you bringing the boat to the rendezvous?

    Werner,
Thanks, this is really appreciated. I have most of the stuff needed for the install but still I feel better to see as many Westsail installs as possible just in case I'm missing something.

I ordered a 50' roll of Trident 101 (the odor bullet proof stuff) from the internet, it should be here next week. It's $8-$10 per foot, I will sell the excess (probably half the roll?) on cruisersforum. This stuff sells fast on cruisersforum, besides, I can upload pictures for users to view the product.

    Thanks again,
    Carl

    So my question to everyone would be;

Is installing the vented loops inside the inner most cabinet ACCEPTABLE?
This location would be about the same height as the wash basin (few inches above waterline when boat is level).

    Thanks

    Carl,

My gut feeling is that it would be acceptable, since it is indeed above waterline... apparently, even on a Starboard tack. As you know, the primary purpose of the vented loop is to act as a siphon break to prevent water from flooding the head (and boat) should the head valve jam open. As long as it is always above waterline, you should be fine.

If anyone disagrees, please add your two cents. I'm sure Carl would like to get this project under way.

    Thanks Jack,
I will be starting the project as soon as Momma wakes up.
I got my 50' roll of Trident 101 1-1/2" fedex yesterday, will have alot leftover.

I will be installing both vented loops inside the outer most cabinet allowing them to be higher abover the waterline as well as the Whale y-valve.

    Cheers.

Most assuredly. With 50' you can probably tap directly into the city sewage system ;-)

Let's talk... I'll buy some from you to do my system.

    Jack,

    I'm 3/4 complete.
I can email you pics when done.

Sorry but I can't attach here inthis thread.    sniff sniff
