The registration is opened for the first race for the Singlehanded Sailing Society’s 2019 season, the famed Three Bridge Fiasco!
You get to sail across the starting line in either direction and then choose your course around the bay, rounding marks at each bridge in the order you decide (or the current decides for you :)
Passing this along for bay area locals to consider joining the Singlehanded Sailing Society’s 2019 season. Even if you're not down to singlehand all the time, you can literally race in any of the races in the doublehanded division (the exception being the Farallones race) and you can switch divisions before each race to decide singlehanded or doublehanded.
As far as an active racing calendar this is the best bang for the buck on the bay for an annual membership cost. Also for every race there is souvenir swag (t-shirt/hat/sweatshirt etc)! Even if you DNS/DNF etc, as long as you're registered, you get the swag :) There is also a pre race meeting on the Wednesday before each race that is fun to attend, usually with some type of guest speaker and a chance to hang with everyone.
I know most Westsail folks aren’t racers, but joining is a great opportunity to meet other seasoned salts and shake out the sheets on a regular basis and hone your boat handling skills. There are both spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions if you want to keep in mellower. I usually decide which division to race a few days before based on the weather and who else is in my division (I rarely actually use the asym/spin in the bay in these races but do more on the out of the bay races) The other cool part is that you can use the SSS membership as your YC to enter other YRA races (i.e. the OYRA series) and that keeps costs down if you're considering racing in any other events.

ps, The Three Bridge Fiasco race is usually kinda nutty because there's so many boats and its usually light wind, but if its a breeze on day, it’s a really fun day on the bay. Sometimes I have DNF’d and a few times I have DNS'd because I knew it would be too light for Tortuga. I have only finished that particular race once :)
